With great sadness, we regret to announce the unfortunate passing of David Christopher Crerar, also affectionately known by many as Pirate. Christopher was born on the 11th of February, 1970 in New Westminster, BC. He was involved in a tragic motorcycle accident, which took his life on the night of the 9th of August, 2019.

Christopher is survived by his loving wife, Christie, their sons, Tyler, Jared and Jacob, dog, Buddy, parents, Alison and David Crerar, brothers, Jeff and Steve, sisters-in-law, Amber and Andrea, nieces, Meghan, Mackenzie and Alexandra, nephews, Joshua and Porter. He is also survived by mother and father-in-law, Pat and Pete Henchen, sister-in-law, Jennifer, brother-in-law, Stephen, niece, Ivy and nephew, Owen, as well as many other family and friends. He is predeceased by his dog, Sasha, who was his constant companion and best friend.

Christopher attended Golden Secondary School in Golden, BC and graduated from James Fowler High School in Calgary, AB. He was owner operator of his own business, Topher’s Trucking, a long haul trucker, equipment operator, dump truck driver and log truck driver, most recently for D. Munden Trucking. Christopher was also owner/operator of Pirate Transport and was known as a highly respected, professional driver. In his own words, he was a “jack of all trades, and master of none.” Christopher enjoyed riding his quad, motorcycles, both on road and off, flying, boating and other water sports. He was also a talented artist and amateur photographer.

A celebration of life will be held on the 24th of August, 2019, from 1pm to 6pm at the Splatsin Centre in Enderby, BC.

I am so sorry to hear of Christopher’s passing. I have cried many times this week knowing he wasn’t here with us anymore. He was a great guy who I shared many laughs with. His energy for life was incredible and contagious. I am so sad that he no longer is on the planet to spread his extra special ways at making people feel like they mattered. I am so grateful that I knew him and will forever carry in my being the Christopher Crerar experience. It was truly soul moving. My condolences to Christie and his parents, brothers and sons, I understand who you have lost.
RIP Christopher.

Condolence from Tammy Hull on August 16th, 2019 11:59 pm

Such a sad departure from this life he lived so grand! My impression of Christopher when I met him was big bold and strong. He lived in the moment and always had a story to share. My story with him was the leftover carrots at Nicki and Gary wedding… long story short he challenged me to use the huge portion of carrots in some way..soup is what I picked. With a mixing of a few special things and I made a carrot curry soup fit for the pirate! Success and smiles were shared by all, It’s this great memory I’ll have forever. Sending positive energy that he will watch over all of us as he navigates his new adventure far up in the heavens. Rest easy pirate, we will watch over your family and shower them with the love you provided always.

Our hearts are heavy for your loss, and our thoughts are with you. I will always remember that silly grin that so often crossed his lips, and how quick he was to take advantage of a situation for a good tease. Gone from everyone’s lives far too soon.

The world has lost a unique soul that touched everyone who knew him. He was as kind as he was truthful and that is hard to come by. He was a great friend and an all around awesome guy. I will miss his jabs on politics and thoughts about so many topics. the zany pictures he always posted and just his general good nature. I will miss him.
I loved how much he loved his family. It was clear to see that his Wife and boys meant the world to him. Take comfort in his love.
Thought and hugs in this difficult time and in the times that are still to come.

Condolence from Denyse Merchant on August 20th, 2019 9:47 am

Condolences my friend Christie, and family. Christopher will be missed by all… He had a way about him that’s for sure. A very kind hearted gentle soul.. A soul taken before his time. I found this poem I thought I’d pass along . Take care ❤️

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free,
I’m following paths God made for me
I took his hand I heard him call
Then turned, and bid farewell to all

I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to sing, to play
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found my peace… at close of play

And if my parting left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Ah yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened… deep with sorrow
I wish you sunshine of tomorrow
My life’s been full I’ve savoured much
Good friends, good times
A loved one’s touch

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don’t lengthen it now with grief
Lift up your hearts and share with me,
God wants me now… He set me free.

Condolence from Heather & Darian Swartz on August 22nd, 2019 10:35 pm

I will always remember that Chris took me for a ride on his motorcycle because I was scared of crashing (a friend had before this crashed his motorcycle and tragically died). Chris was determined to help me through this loss. But I was trying to counter lean because I was afraid we would crash. With his coaching, I had to let myself go and just melt myself into his back. I’m sure I probably had an iron grip around his waist. We went for a pleasant ride and I was less afraid after that.

My husband, Darian, and I are praying for the family – especially Dave and Alison, Steve, Jeff and families , who we have had a long history and pleasure of knowing. How tragic! We pray that God will comfort you during this terrible loss. If there is anything you need, please let us know.

Condolence from Guenther & Hilda Moellenbeck on August 24th, 2019 12:09 pm

Know that our thoughts are with you, Allison and David and all of your family as you’re trying to cope with the tragic loss of Christopher. Sending our deepest sympathy with love and friendship,
