Jul 8, 1952 – Feb 28, 2013
Bob’s zest for life began when he was born in Lion’s Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, B.C on July 8, 1952. He joined his parents Russ and Irene and his sister Barbara at 2830 Lyndene Rd. Bob attended Highlands Elementary School and junior high at Shawnigan Lake. He graduated from Carson Graham in 1971. He explored many different job opportunities around the province – one year he had fourteen T4 slips! After a work related accident, he needed to find a less physically demanding profession. He attended U.B.C. where he earned his degree in Education. He found a position here in Clearwater as an art teacher. The thirty years he spent in the classroom teaching art, metal work, auto shop and the alternate ed ‘Lone Star’ program were very memorable for both himself and his students. Bob taught life skills to his students using his classes as his medium. He instilled his belief of the value of lifelong learning in them.
Growing up surrounded by the forest as his playground he continued his love of the outdoors throughout his life. In the winter he skied downhill and cross country. In the summer, windsurfing, swimming, canoeing and riding his motorcycle filled his time. In 2011, he retired from the classroom and took up the guitar playing with the boys in his ‘garage band’. He also was able to take the time to concentrate on making art particularly by painting and was able to showcase his work at his first art show last spring.
Bob will be remembered for his art work, his generous spirit and his ability to make a sandwich out of anything. His outgoing personality and infectious smile will be missed not only by his friends and family but also by the members of the community that he loved so much.
Bob was predeceased by his mother Irene in 2012. He leaves behind his wife Carol, his son Dylan, father Russell in Surrey and sister Barbara (Jim) Cannici in Oregon. Missing Bob will be numerous members of his family and many, many friends.Print This Obituary & Condolences
