Curtis Verne Merriman
August 8, 1980 – January 21, 2021
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Curtis Verne Merriman. Curtis was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend.
Curtis was born in Edmonton, AB to Verne and Vivianne Merriman on August 8, 1980. Playing baseball, mountain biking and spending time with family, filled his childhood memories. From the day he got his first guitar at the age of 14, Curtis was hooked. He had a passion for music and was unbelievably talented as he learned all songs by ear. Over the years he was a part of many bands where he played guitar and backup vocals.
The Merriman family moved to Grande Prairie in 1994 where Curtis finished off his high school years. With a talent for mechanical tinkering and creating projects out of wood and metal, Curtis entered into the field of construction after graduating from St. Joseph’s High school in 1998. Curtis was always the most comfortable in the company of others. He loved to socialize and make others laugh. His selfless nature would often have him working on various weekend projects for friends and family.
Curtis met his wife Tara in 2009, they fell deeply in love and were married in 2013. In 2014 they brought their first child Micah into the world and Zoey followed in 2016 to complete the family. Zoey had daddy wrapped around her finger from day one. They built a life of love and laughter. Their family moved from Grande Prairie to Seton Portage, BC in 2017 where Curtis immersed himself in the community. He became the Fire Chief of the Seton Valley Volunteer Fire Department. This role was one that Curtis loved and thrived in.
Curtis was an artist, musician, craftsman, mechanic, and a true jack of all trades. He will always be remembered for his contagious smile, generosity and love of life.
Curtis will be remembered every day by his wife and children, his parents, brothers Chad (Deea), Tyler (Kim), and sister Cheryl (Rob), nieces Chelsea, Brea, Brooklynn, and Alexa, nephews Carter and Brandon, Mother in law Lynn (Clifford predeceased), sister in law Vivian (Troy), aunts, uncles and extended family and friends who were like family.
A celebration of his life will be planned when there is more freedom for family and friends to gather and reminisce.Print This Obituary & Condolences
