EMILE DESJARLAIS was born in Legoff, Alberta son of Narcisse Desjarlais and Christine Tourongeau. He grew up in Alberta, one of 13 children, and soon learned the workings of the farm. He moved to Lac La Biche, Alberta where he met and married Helen Conacher. He ran a successful farm there before moving to Valemount, B.C. Once in Valemount he became a forester and mill worker. Emile was a social person and in his younger days loved to dance. He enjoyed family functions and would take to the road to visit friends and family quite often. He was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. Emile was a good cook and enjoyed canning and gardening and looking after his little farm once he retired from the Mill. He will be missed by all his friends in Valemount. He leaves to mourn his eight children: Rose Desjarlais – Kamloops, BC, Shirley Ferguson (nee Desjarlais) – Calgary, AB, Christine (Chris) Barrell (nee Desjarlais) – Langley, BC, Frank (Dawn) Desjarlais – Calgary, AB, James (Darlene) Desjarlais – Langley, BC, Irene Desjarlais – Hinton, AB, Ken Desjarlais – Edmonton, AB, Harry Desjarlais – Merritt, BC; his brother Gerald (Brigid) Desjarlais – Edmonton, AB; 11 – grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his 2 sons Gerald and Wilfred Desjarlais and 1 grandson Brent Barrell.
A funeral service will take place for Emile Desjarlais on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. At the community hall in Valemount, BC. Interment will follow at the Valemount Cemetery, with family and friends returning to the hall for refreshments and a chance to share good memories of Emile.
