August 31, 1931 – May 18, 2023
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved Husband, Dad and Papa. Earl passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 18th at the Kamloops Hospice Centre.
Dad was one of 12 children born to Charles and Margaret Friedel on August 31st, 1931 in Fairview Alberta. Dad worked as a mechanic during his working career, he worked at the Mica Dam, Hudson Hope Dam and for Dawson Construction. He met the love of his life, Marilyn in 1957 in Dawson Creek, they were married September 26th, 1959 in Edmonton AB. What a love story they have. They moved to various parts of BC before settling down in Kamloops in 1968.
Dad had a very strong catholic faith and was an active and devoted member of the Elks for over 50 years, holding numerous chairs and served twice as District Deputy. He was a member of good standing in the IUOE Union since 1967. Dad loved cars, size did matter, the bigger the better, no small cars for Dad. One of his favourite cars was a white Station Wagon and of course it had to be a Ford. Dad was a handyman and could fix anything as long as he had a roll duct tape and black tape. Which you can find all over his home.
Dad was known for his kind heart, his dedication, care, and love for his family, they were his number one priority. When Dad’s grandchildren arrived, they all looked up to their Papa, they loved his wit, his smirk, sense of humour and strong family values. Some of Dad’s biggest smiles would shine when he would see his great grandchildren at family celebrations, or when they would come to visit Nana and Papa at their home over the past three years.
Dad is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn of 63 years, son, Peter (Lorelee), daughters Peggy (Steve) Tilleman, Maryann (Harry) Bruneau and Caroline (Rod) Ralston. His grandchildren, Josh (Mandi) Tilleman, Jeremy (Christine)Tilleman, Benjamin (Vanessa) Tilleman, Emma (Jonathan) Zagorski, James Friedel (Lindsey), Melissa (David) Smith, Zachary Bruneau (Carly), Jessica (Kirby) Papineau, Justin (Kylye) Ralston, Sheldon Ralston (Janette). His precious great grandchildren, Nate, Abby, Arissa, Lily, Emmett, Shelby, Leah, Gauge, Karson, Ryley, Annalise, Waylon and Milton. His brother Herbie and sister Alice, Marilyn’s family and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his Dad (1962); his Mom (1996) 5 brothers, 4 sisters. Great grandson’s Quintin Leon and Sebastien Earl Papineau.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stefanyk for his care, the nurses in the ER, nurses on the 6th floor and the nurses at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Centre. Although his time at hospice was short, we offer our sincere gratitude for the care and compassion all the nurses gave to Dad and to the family.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice In Dad’s Honor.
Funeral Mass for Earl will be held on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023 at 11:30AM. Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 635 Tranquille Road.
