March 7, 2000 – December 28, 2022
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jakob Douglas Gibbon on December 28, 2022.
He will be deeply missed by his father Douglas Gibbon (Sharon), stepmother Wendy Ryan, his grandmother Yvonne Gibbon, Uncle Wayne, Aunties Brenda (Keith), Lorrie, Penny (Dale), Uncle Doug Friesen (Pat), his big bro Chuck (Diana), nephews Seth (Emily), Frankie (Sabrina), Aaron, and Jaxon, Aunties Marlene, Shirley, Cynthia, Susan, Lori-Ann, and numerous cousins throughout British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario.
Jakob was predeceased by his mother Jacque Doreen Gibbon, grandfather Floyd Arthur Gibbon, Grandparents Jack and June Friesen, Uncle Robert Ryan, and his Gramps Rick Cattermole.
Jakob, or “Gibby” as he was affectionately known to his friends, was a hardworking and loving young man. He was born prematurely and only weighed 1 pound 6 ounces; truly a miracle baby!
From an early age he was generous to a fault, always willing to help anyone that needed a hand, never expecting anything in return. He could often be found mowing a lawn, shoveling a driveway, or doing anything anyone needed. Jakob was hard working and worked at three jobs after graduating from Norkam Secondary, never one to sit still for long. He loved his job at Thompson River Veneer Products and made many close connections with his co-workers there. He also worked at Generals Grants Bottle Depot on the weekends and enjoyed the connections he made there with co-workers and customers. As much as he enjoyed his work, he also enjoyed his down time and was happiest at home.
Jakob loved his family and was very devoted to them. He enjoyed many summers as a young boy with his Granny Yvonne in the Kootenays. He loved going for drives in the bush with his Gramps and cherished the time he got to spend with him as well. He looked forward to family gatherings and would always be the first one to help clean up. At Christmas and birthdays, he made sure to include everyone and always knew the perfect gift to buy. Jakob often came to watch his nephews play hockey and made sure to have a snack handy for everyone to enjoy. He also loved his furry family members, especially his cats; first Snowball and then Snuggles. The highlight of his day was coming home from work and spending time with Snuggles, who also looked forward to that time as well. Jakob spoiled him!
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone that took time out of their busy lives to help search for Jakob, both in Kamloops and across Canada. Losing Jakob so suddenly and unexpectedly has left a huge hole in our hearts but we are grateful to have had him in our lives, even if for a short time.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kamloops SPCA in Jakob’s name.
Offer Condolence for the family of Jakob Douglas Gibbon 2000 – 2022

Ches and Gwenn Skiffington
So sorry to hear the news. I only knew Jakob as a young boy, as I worked with his father, Doug. We have lost touch over the years. Our deepest condolences to Doug and all of Jakobs family.
Sincerely,
Ches and Gwenn Skiffington
