Olav Tveita 1948 – 2023

In Memorial
Tveita photo1

We are so sad to let you know that Olav passed away at home on January 9, 2023 after a courageous fight with a rare, incurable cancer.

Born in Norway in 1948, he emigrated with his family to Ontario when he was age 3.  He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and was involved with Sons of Norway for many years.  An adventurer and seafarer at heart, he left home at 16 to go sailing and saw the world from the deck of a freighter.  After finishing grade 12 in Vancouver,  he soon settled down in Victoria and found work with BC Hydro Gas at that time, retiring after 41 years, a job he loved, making many lifelong friends. There, as a Boy Scout leader, he met Kathy and their 50 year adventure began.

Kind and generous,  he loved his family most of all, along with hunting,  fishing, getting firewood and travelling.

He leaves behind his beloved family,  wife Kathy and children Sigrid (Gord), Serina (Troy), Bjarne,  and Amanda (Mike) and 12 wonderful grandchildren,  Giovanni, Finn, Stian, Dominic, Trygg,  Dagny, Tor, Gabriella, Luciana, Leif, Ole and Zack. His sisters Ase (Norway), Eli & Marit (Victoria) and their families will also miss him.  Predeceased by his parents Ole & Astrid.

His ashes will be scattered at his favourite fishing spot and there will be a gathering of family and friends in the spring. Many thanks to the Cancer Clinic and Dr. Dickinsen for their care.

We will miss Olav very much, we always loved his way of expressing himself. It will not be the same without his laugh and little jokes to listen to.

    Rest in peace Olav

I want to send my condolences to Kathy and her family of the passing of Olav. He will be missed very much but hopefully you all can keep his memories you shared together in your lives by talking about them. He truly was a soft spoken fellow and very nice to be around. So sorry for you loss.

I will always remember Olav asking me if I would like to share his lunch with him out at Green Lake area as we worked together when I started with Terasen Gas back in 2007 in the 100 Mile House area.
He will be missed and was a very kind and gentle man.

My sincere condolences to Kathy & Family

So sorry to hear of Olav’s passing. He was such a nice man who was always so kind. He and Kathy hosted a few Christmas’ (many years ago) and were always such gracious hosts.

I always got a kick out of what he said about their chickens, ‘they’re the stupidest animals on the plant, they’ll stand in the pouring rain rather than go into the chicken coop’….said with his giggle.

My condolences to the entire family.

Reading yesterday’s paper I was shocked to read about Olav’s passing. We knew you both when we were members of the Sons of Norway. Our condolences to you Kathy and families. Sincerely, Kathy and Gary Belik

I don’t have to tell you about the special type of guy Olav was. I remember him as a kind and gentle workmate. Always positive with a great quiet sense of humour. They used to say that if there wasn’t a slight smell of fish, you’d not know that Olav and his friend John were in the room.

    Dear Kathy and family,

We are so very sorry to hear of Olav’s passing.
We remember Olav fondly, like the times we did backyard grape crushing and wine making. We also remember lovely dinners that we had together. Olav told great stories of your travels around the world and life around the farm.
    Our Deepest Condolences,
    Denice and Guy
