Phyllis Bucknell 1939 – 2022

In Memorial

PHYLLIS PHOTO CROPPED

With heavy hearts we announce the death of our Mom, Phyllis Marie Bucknell. With family at her side, she gently passed on Oct 25, 2022.

PHYLLIS WAS BORN IN North Vancouver to Charlie Burman and Stella Blanchard on September 7th, 1939. Her childhood was spent in the Prichard and Kamloops area before moving to Clearwater as a teen and later moved to Camp 2.

On July 9, 1957, Phyllis married Howard Bucknell, starting a life together that would span 65 years. Phyllis is survived by her devoted husband, Howard. She was the much-loved mother of Linda (Allen) Selbee, Charles (Michelle) Bucknell, Roberta (Frank) Doughman, Sarah (Peter) Triechel and Evan Bucknell. A proud grandmother to her grandchildren to Lorne (Jennifer) Selbee, Teresa (Ron) Baker, Carla (Ryan) Donnelly, Alison (Adam) Triechel, Ricky (Aylssa) Hiebert, Dylon (Brittney) Hiebert, Howard (Sarah) Bucknell, Thomas (Jenny) Neudorf. Phyllis was also fortunate to welcome 11 great grandchildren into her family during her time.

In addition to a life spent raising five children, Phyllis had a passion for cooking, baking, and canning. A family gathering when everyone was home, mom was always in the kitchen cooking with whoever was willing to help. She always enjoyed these days and meeting new grandchildren.

Phyllis spent many years working as a cook at various places around the Clearwater area. When she retired, she continued cooking, every Saturday morning she cooked at the Elks pancake breakfast as a member of the Royal Purples, the BPO Elks #499. She enjoyed meeting the people that came for the breakfasts and working with the fellow volunteers. In her retirement she dedicated many hours to the community she loved by volunteering at the Clearwater Thrift Store, Help arrange Christmas Bazaar’s at the Elks Hall then later cooking for the Clearwater Community Seniors Luncheons; she did this till she was no longer able to.

Together with her husband, Mom loved camping and fishing in the management. She never seemed to catch the most fish, but that didn’t bother her because she always went home with the biggest one. During camping trips, she would relish the opportunity to teach her grandchildren to play crib and didn’t mind winning. (They had to learn).

Phyllis will be remembered for her generous spirit and always willing to help when she could and would add in a few of her ideas just to help a little more. She loved her home and community.

For her grandchildren, the smell of fresh baked bread and the sound of shuffling playing cards will always bring them back to their time together at the kitchen table.

Condolences for the family can be sent to the family via [email protected] Donations can be made to a Food Bank in your area or to the Clearwater and District Food Bank in Clearwater.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
