April 29, 2022 By Erin Saunders 4 Condolences

Raymond (Ray) Gregory Holowaychuk 1952 – 2022

In Memorial
Holowaychuk

Raymond was born May 23, 1952 in Radway Alberta to George and Rose Holowaychuk. He passed away unexpectedly April 8, 2022 at RIH with two of his daughters Natasha and Kayla at his side, along with his son-in-law Rob Harris. Ray drifted away to the sound of his five daughter’s voices as they Face Timed and sang some of his favourite songs.

Ray was the fifth, of eight children, born to George and Rose and their second son. Ray was pre-deceased by his parents, and his dear sister Sonja and her husband Brian Davis. He was also pre-deceased in 2018 by his ex wife Laura “Michelle” Holowaychuk (Harmon), whom he was married to from 1981-1996.

Ray had a number of talents and experiences through his working years; he held the title ofcarpenter, hunting guiding outfit owner, wood craftsman and artisan. But there was no title that Ray held higher than that of father. Together Ray and Michelle had four daughters, and a step daughter: Natasha Verra Ellen Holowaychuk (Rob Harris), Kassandra Rose Rohs (Kevin Rohs), Hayley Mya Marie Mumby (Stacey Mumby), Lisa Marie Schwan (Dave Schwan), and Kayla Dawn Rosen (Travis Rosen).

Ray and Michelle moved from the lower mainland with their three young children to Barriere in 1989 where they started to build their dream log home on 10 acres and where they welcomed their youngest daughter. This dream ended tragically, just after their marriage, when the home went up in flames in the middle of the night in August of 1997. Despite the tangled few decades that followed, and even though Ray and Michelle were no longer married, they had an intertwining friendship. Although it had knotted many times, they were always there for each other and for their children. Ray assisted Michelle during her battle with cancer and was there to hold her hand as she drew her last breath while their children sang to her in 2018.

Ray loved and treasured his grandchildren; there was nothing that brought him greater joy than teaching them to crawl and walk, and spending as much time with them as he could. He will be missed dearly and remembered by the 10 grandchildren he has left behind: Cole, Kaydence, and Avary (Natasha and Rob Harris), Garrett, Gradyn, and Gavin (Kassandra and Kevin Rohs), Keplar and Grace (Lisa and Dave Schwan), Elleanor and Bristol (Ben Beaver and Kayla and Travis Rosen)

A celebration of life will be held in Ray’s honour at the
Fall Fair Hall Saturday July 23, 2022 at 1 pm.

Please join his daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren as we celebrate the man well known for his smile and kind heart. Reception to follow at his home in Louis Creek.
