When a death occurs, funeral homes ask next of kin or the executor to bring information. This is so that the death can be registered with Vital Stats in Victoria, and a death certificate can be produced. It’s a good idea to make sure you keep the following close by, because it will be needed when your time comes:
- Birth Certificate
- Care Card (or care card number on the back of your Driver’s Licence)
- Social Insurance card
- Marriage Certificate
The marriage certificate is important only if there is a surviving spouse, because we fill out the CPP Survivor’s Pension application and the marriage certificate must accompany same.
